The Opening of the Photo Exhibition in Klaipeda Dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of the Japan –Lithuania Diplomatic Relations and Reconstruction after the Great East Japan Earthquake

On November 15, 2011, the Opening of the Photo Exhibition Dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of the Japan-Lithuania Diplomatic Relations and Reconstruction after the Great Earthquake was held in Ievos Simonitytes Public Library of Klaipeda Region. Klaipeda City Mayor Vytautas Grubliauskas, Principal of Klaipedos Martyno Mazvydo Progymnasium (Primary and Secondary School) Vytautas Dumcius attended the ceremony as well as the representatives of Klaipeda City Hall, the library staffs, media and citizens. Around 60 participants came to take part in the event.

At the opening ceremony, Mayor Grubliauskas and Ambassador of Japan Miyoko Akashi made welcome remarks, and School Principal Dumcius read a message from Klaipeda’s sister city Kuji City Mayor Takafumi Yamauchi for the 20th Anniversary of New Deplomatic Relations between Lithuania and Japan. Taking this opportunity, Ambassador Akashi donated 10 books, such as Japan’s landscape photo collections, books of Japanese paintings and descriptions of Japanese traditional culture, to the library.

Many participants were pleased to see the displayed photos of the improving situations of the affected areas by the Great Earthquake, where Kuji City also locates. Many were also grateful for the Embassy’s donation of the books and delighted that they will be able to gain more opportunities to enjoy and appreciate the Japanese culture at the library.
